Property Accountant (14 Month Contract) | Calgary

Position Summary |
​This position will report directly to the Controller, Property Accounting and work closely with both our accounting team and our Property Management team. The Property Accountant is responsible for providing accounting support in the commercial property management industry.
​
Regular work hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Key Responsibilities:​​​

Preparation of all monthly financial statements for a portfolio of commercial properties, including working papers, cash flow statements and continuity schedules

Reconcile, analyze and maintain a full understanding of all balance sheet and income statement accounts

Preparation of monthly Rent Rolls
-
Complete journal entries and review and update details of all recurring entries, including property tax, mortgage, insurance, prepaid expenses and accruals

Review and monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable
-
Review bank reconciliations and related adjusting entries
-
Complete monthly GST reconciliations
-
Preparation of quarterly reports
-
Preparation of monthly and year-end recovery schedules, including annual tenant invoices

Responsibility for detailed financial component of annual property operating budgets
-
Assistance in financial due diligence on proposed new acquisitions

Preparation of year-end working paper files for audit purposes
-
Direct liaison with auditors with respect to queries
-
Communicate and work with Property Managers on all building related issues
-
Respond to tenant concerns, issues and requests for information
-
Review lease input information into Yardi for accuracy

Special projects as assigned

Qualifications |​​
-
Recent completion or in the last stages of a recognized accounting designation (CPA)
-
Ability to work successfully within a team environment and independently
-
Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills
-
Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Excel
-
Strong analytical skills
-
Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
-
Proficient in Yardi software would be considered an asset
-
Successful City of Calgary Police Information/Criminal Record Check
