R. Scott Hutcheson – Executive Chairman of the Board
R. Scott Hutcheson is the Executive Chair of Aspen Properties, a fully integrated, privately held commercial real estate company based in the city of Calgary. Together with investment partners, Aspen owns and manages approximately $1.2 billion in assets, comprising 3.7 million square feet of downtown office space and 3,000 parking stalls in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton. The portfolio consists of ten buildings in downtown Calgary, one office building in the beltline, and two “AA” office towers in downtown Edmonton. Within the portfolio, an additional 1.2 million square feet of “AAA” LEED Gold office space has been approved for development. Aspen also owns the iconic Calgary Tower.
Prior to co-founding Aspen Properties in 1998, Hutcheson served as President of a real estate partnership in Florida that was financed by an ivy league university endowment fund. He was also previously employed as an investment banker for Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York and San Francisco. In addition to his position as Executive Chair of the Board of Aspen Properties, Hutcheson is an active member in the community, having served on numerous boards. He has served as the Chair of Calgary 2026, a community initiative to explore an Olympic and Paralympic Bid for Calgary. He is also the Chair of the Board of Directors of Arts Commons. He has served on various boards over the past decade which included Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for Winterstart (the organization which operates both the men’s and women’s Alpine World Cup ski races at Lake Louise) and served as Chair of the Board of WinSport (the organization that owns and operates the legacy assets from Calgary’s ’88 winter Olympics). He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Own the Podium, a member of the Board of Governors of Shawnigan Lake School and a member of the Board of Directors of Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, the Co-Chair of Calgary Economic Development’s, Real Estate Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (Gold). In the past decade, Hutcheson has served on five public company boards and has been an officer of three TSX companies. He was a member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team (1978-1982), a first team All-America NCAA athlete and a member of four NCAA Championship Ski Teams.
Hutcheson earned a Master of Science degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Utah and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Greg A. Guatto – President & Chief Executive Officer
Greg Guatto is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Aspen Properties, a fully integrated, privately held commercial real estate company based in the city of Calgary. Since joining Aspen in 2001, Mr. Guatto has been responsible for the operations with a primary focus on the acquisitions, dispositions, financing and asset management functions of the company. Mr. Guatto previously worked with TrizecHahn Properties Ltd. And Knowlton Realty Ltd. In 1990, he received and HBA in Business Administration with Honours, from the Ivey Business School at Western University.
Mr. Guatto is proud to be involved in his community as a Founder Club Member with Free the Children & WE, an Ambassador Counsel member of Amici Camping Charity, as well as a Calgary Alumni Leadership Advisory Group member for the Ivey Business School.
Rob Blackwell – Chief Operating Officer
Rob Blackwell joined Aspen Properties in October 2004 as Leasing Manager of the Calgary office portfolio. Since starting with Aspen, he has been promoted multiple times and is now the Chief Operating Officer as of December 2018. Rob is responsible for the daily operations of the company working with the leads of the leasing and property management of the Aspen portfolio. He is responsible for identifying and executing upon acquisition opportunities for the company, most recently leading the acquisition of Sun Life Plaza, a 1.05M SF ‘A” Class complex in downtown Calgary. In addition, he oversees the long term asset management strategy for Aspen including managing mortgage financing, value creation initiatives and capital spending strategies. Together with investment partners, Aspen owns and manages approximately $1.2 billion in assets, comprising 3.8 million square feet of downtown office space and 3,000 parking stalls in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton.
He is on the Board of Directors at BOMA Calgary, an industry association that promotes the professional standards of commercial building ownership and property management.
Mr. Blackwell is a graduate of the University of Calgary with a Degree in Commerce (Finance).
Kelly Wildeman – Vice President, Financial Reporting & Corporate Services
Kelly Wildeman joined Aspen Properties in June 2002 as Controller and was promoted to Vice President, Financial Reporting & Corporate Services in October 2013. Kelly leads the Corporate Services team including Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology and Administration.
Mr. Wildeman is a Chartered Professional Accountant with several years of extensive experience.
Prior to Aspen Properties, he spent three years as Assistant Controller for a large Western Canadian construction company. Previous experience includes the energy sector in Calgary and public practice in Saskatoon.
Morley Barr – Vice President, Property Management & Operations
Morley’s career has spanned more than 24 years in commercial real estate, and has included progressive management positions with some of Canada’s largest commercial real estate owners and developers. During his tenure he has managed multiple asset classes in six different major markets across Canada.
At Aspen, Morley leads the Property Management & Operations teams responsible for the over $1.0 billion in assets owned by the company and their investment partners.
Morley holds a Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation from the Real Estate Institute of Canada. He completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Saskatchewan (BA), as well as MacEwan University’s Advertising & Public Relations diploma program. He is currently serving on the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Edmonton’s Board of Directors, and has served on the board of Edmonton’s Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) organization, a charity supporting youth facing difficult realities.
